Very attractive but seems unlikely it is a genuine cancel for genuine use. The paper is plain white, no printing under stamp or on reverse, not the paper quality I would expect for a financial transaction document. In pencil on reverse "3804e / 3" which is early Scott number equivalent to today's #R5c. ("3" perhaps was catalog value 75+/- years ago).
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Bill

Interesting, but as you say, without context it's hard to gauge genuineness. Its crudeness looks more akin to postal fancy cancels than fiscal cancels of the era.

I have not seen this cancel before.

I have never seen it either, but I don't like the shade or the consistency of the ink.

Likely why it's been trimmed out of the original document. If it were used as postage and struck with a fancy cork then one would expect to see the whole cover saved as that would have been an oddity in and of itself noteworthy of the period. Plus look how sharp the corners are around the paper where it was cut out. Just my thought on this. It is interesting though.

That would usually mean "cut with scissors".

Highly un-likely.

Edited by KL to change likely to un-likely.

Assuming the paper actually was a document of some kind.
