Care to try to name the five shades here?

Wonder if we all can agree?

Does anybody have right and proper information on possible date usages for the different shades. These shades are not in any specific orientation as to shade with one another!

There might be more shades, these are the only ones I have on hand at this time.

There was various printing of these and color mixing varied a lot, see the stamps in question!

Cheers

The left hand stamp in the bottom scan is the earliest shade, the lighter grays came next, and the browns are the last shades. According to the Boston Book there were 9 shades, pale gray, bluish gray, greenish gray, brownish gray, purplish gray, slate violet, violet, red violet, and pale brown. Many of the shade changes were deliberate in an attempt to prevent cleaning and reuse. Generally with regard to this problem the dark stamps got lighter and the light stamps got darker as time went on.

Interesting. And here I thought this may be one of those changeling situations. By chance is the lower right 1871 a silk paper?
