I recently purchased this Scott #71 with a fancy cancel. Only about half of the cancel on the stamp but there appears to be a sufficient portion showing to be able to identify it. I searched my Skinner & Eno US Cancelations book but found nothing even close to the cancel. If someone could direct me to a possible source to id it or if you can provide and id, I'd greatly appreciate your help.

The scan is not mine but is from the seller's ebay site. The stamp has been delivered to my US mailing address but I will not have it in my possession for several more weeks.

An unidentifiable but clear cancel is not necessarily a fake. This has a strong resemblance to Worcester Massachusetts letter-in-sunburst cancels. Rotate 90-degrees clockwise... see the negative "C" now? Driving me nuts because I have seen this one somewhere but not sure if it was a tracing somewhere or an actual stamp. Will look some more tomorrow though.

kollectorkurt, thanks so much for the info you have already given me. I was trying to make sense out of it as it is in the scan. I was only coming up with the unlikely image of a square top head with mouth wide open. I await additional information should you be able to locate it. And yes, I do see what could be a partial negative "C".
