Hi, Hoping to get some thoughts on this find. It seems to be an 1894 stamp but there are no triangles in the upper corners , THanks much for any input .

1890 - printed by American Bank Note Company with no triangles (Scott 219-229)
1894 - printed by Bureau of Engraving and Printing with triangles (Scott 246 and on, depending upon type and watermark)

Yours is Scott 220

In its day, it was good to pay the letter rate for 1/2 oz.
Today, it's not particularly scarce or valuable used.

If you use Stamp Smarter you can see that they printed 6,144,819,500 of them; the number printed can often give you a feel for rarity.

Not sure what source you are using to research your stamps, but Scott's U.S. Specialized catalog is pretty much the place to go. Your local library should have the Scott catalogs, or pick up one up cheaply online that is several years old.
(Slight correction to Chipg's excellent posts above. The letter weight doubled from 1/2 ounce to 1 ounce on July 1 1885.)

Thanks, John.
I'm not up on the more modern stuff as I am on the older stuff.
(yes, tongue firmly in cheek as I type that last line).

Some market exists for used Scott 220. From time to time I offer ebay auction lots of about 1,000 based on weight. Buyers may look for better fancy or machine cancels, plate or die varieties including 220a and 220c.
