Hi All
Does any member of the CF know where there is a good source of information regarding plate varieties of the German definitives, mostly the Germania Heads and others?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thank you

lithograving, that's a great website there, most informative. However, I don't understand their price code and can't find where it's explained. Here are the symbols they use: |

** = Mint Never Hinged * = Mint hinged (*) = not sure, possibly CTO or favor cancelled by the Post Office. o or (o) or dot in circle = used, cancelled, postmarked cover is on cover or on letter
Looking on Delcampe you see these a lot from European collectors. |

On the left lower below the menu there are little flags and currency symbols. Clicking on one changes the amounts quoted in the columns to that currency. Neat. Very friendly. No Canada (Kanada) yet. |

Puzzler, thanks for figuring that out.
You'd think they'd provide a key on the Startseite, however!
One of the things I really like about this website is that they illustrate the watermark for every stamp they list (for nearly every stamp I've looked at so far) and when they don't they at least tell you whether it has a watermark or not.
Thanks to this method, I've discovered that I have two inflation-era stamps without watermarks that ought to have them. No mention is made of unwatermarked varieties, so I have two new discoveries to explore!
All that the site lacks is some kind of cross-referencing scheme. It would be good to know, for example, if there are other issues of the same stamp with different perfs or watermarks.
On the whole, though, this is the most thorough philatelic website I've ever seen. I can't wait until it's finished! |

Great site Litho. thanks! I believe they are using the Michel Catalog symbols. (*) is mint with only part of the gum intact. (disturbed gum). The symbol for a CTO is a shaded circle. Dan |

You're right Dan about the (*) symbol and the other ones are the same as in the Michel Catalogs previously explained by Puzzler. In the introduction they state that they cannot use the Michel numbering system due to copyright restrictions.

Litho, I read that too. It made me wonder why they were concerned about the Michel numbering system but not the use of their symbols. Dan |
