Quote: Not sure about this stamps and what is the left "cup" for. Guess: Receiving antenna? the top squarish antenna, receives the microwaves from the satellite, or, another transmitter, and beams it down to the "cup" at the bottom of the Pylon (microwave tower) for processing? |

Hi Eli, no it doesn't fit, but that's OK Just part of the learning curve. Derricks, Microwave towers can look similar. Thanks for your contributions.

You are welcome! Toma, from the same set of the USSR stamp you posted in the previous page, I have two more stamps, in both of them the pylons are very small but still clear and visible. By the way, these USSR stamps, as well as Vietnam sets + Togo + the Algerian FDC (+ Algeria set I still didn't post) - are all in my spare stamps, so if you need them, I will be happy to send you. |

Apart from the third stamp from Vietnam (with the "cup"), all other you have mentioned are of my interest. You are amazing, Eli - finding this lot, after nearly 130 stamps on this narrow themed thread... If my counting is correct, the last one from Laos above is the 136th stamp with insulators!! (Let's wait for Rod to find spare time to make the 4th sheet of summery... of course, no hurry!) The UIT year 1965 is specially rich in them, and showing varied details from issued country - very interesting. And I am adding one more; USSR 1 January 1961 / Definitive Issue / 16k Airliner over power station / design: V. Zavyalov |

Nice pun Imagine the mistakes I would make, if typing in Japanese ! Does not feel like mid winter Today is our Solstice ! Is the shortest day of the year also the coldest? Not usually. This is because of a weird delay called seasonal lag. "There's a delay because the Earth takes a while to cool down and heat up again," Typing under the Inverter air cond at 21 degrees C |

Quote: the Earth takes a while to heat up That's exactly we are here in the UK... getting summery outdoor, but sitting in the ground floor of Victorian house, it is still quite chilled (and nice)! By the way, do you think these Black coloured as well as White coloured umbrella shapes close to the bottom of this stamps are insulator, too?? France 20 June 1957 / French Public Works / design: Serveau, engrave: Piel |

Hi Tomoko, Quote: umbrella shapes close to the bottom of this stamps are insulator, too? I think so, (electrified Rail) I would include them in the database, until proven otherwise. |

Quote: there is something VERY STRANGE with your stamp. The engraver JULES PIEL (engraved over 150 French stamps) his name is running BACKWARDS Yes, I noticed, Rod - let's share the image here. I guess he enjoyed to engrave towers, rivets, cranes and insulators, he made a fun on following DaVinci's mirror writing.. or someone knows about the secret of this type of signing? Or he could be very tired (he was 65 75 years old then), not be bothered to mirror letters, just engrave his name normal, which makes it mirrored when printed?? |
