The Grande Arche de la Défense is a 20th Century version of the Arc de Triomphe built in the modern business district of Paris. The Arche is in the shape of a cube (width: 110m, height: 110m, depth: 110m). It has a prestressed concrete frame covered with glass and Carrara marble from Italy.

Rhodes is the capital of the South Aegean Region and an ancient fortress. The gateway of the fortress, known as the Marine Gate, is located near the Port of Commerce today. The medieval arched gate is flanked by castellated towers.

Here are some beautiful details of the Ishtar Gate from Babylon, mentioned by Puzzler in an earlier post. The gate has been reconstructed at the Pergamon museum in Berlin.

The stamps date from 1966.

The Paghman Victory Arch is located in the Paghman Gardens near Afghanistan's capital city, Kabul. The European-style monumental gate commemorates the King Amanullah Khan who led his country to full independence from British influence.

Set of ten, one stamp shows the square sandstone columns of the Moon God Temple at Marib, Yemen, which was the capital of the Sabaean Kingdom. The temple was built towards the end of the eighth Century B.C.

Roman Temple at Évora is a Corinthian-style temple built in the 2nd Century, believed to be dedicated to Diana. The capitals and the bases are made of Estremoz marble, and the columns are made of granite. The temple has an area of 15 m by 25 m and is 9.6 m tall.
