This superb arched and domed gate is in the grounds of the Royal Pavilion in Brighton, Sussex, UK.
It was depicted on Labels for the 1932 British Philatelic Congress held in the town.

Entrance from inside Jerusalem's Old City showing Jaffa Gate, the Western entrance to the city.





The bottom picture shows General Allenby making a triumphant entrance through the gate and into the city in 1917 after defeating the Turks and ending Ottoman rule.

The Gateway of India is a monument built during the British Raj in Mumbai (formerly Bombay), India, and opened in 1924. The structure is a basalt arch, 26 metres (85 feet) high. It is located on the waterfront in the Apollo Bunder area, South Mumbai, and overlooks the Arabian Sea. Here is an image of a stamp depicting the Gateway of India, printed by lithography, and issued for use in India in 1935 to commemorate King George V's Silver Jubilee, Scott No. 142, plus a photo of the arch as seen from the harbor, 2003.

This 2011 stamp is part of a 4-stamp issue from Singapore. The stamp features the inside of a market built in the early 1800s, that has survived until today where it has become a cooked food centre offering all types of cuisine, mostly Asian. The roof of the structure is supported by magnificent iron arches.

The Column of Constantine is a Roman monumental column constructed on the orders of the Roman emperor Constantine the Great in 330 AD. It commemorates the declaration of Byzantium ("Nova Roma") as the new capital city of the Roman Empire. The column, which today is 35 meters tall, is located in central Istanbul. Here is an image of a stamp depicting the Column of Constantine, printed by lithography, and issued by Turkey (Ottoman Empire) on January 14, 1914, Scott No. 255, plus a photo of the column taken in 1912.

Bogenfels is a location in the coastal Namib Desert of Namibia, noted for its natural rock formations (hence the name, which means "arch rock" in German). The main rock formation is a 55 meters high rock arch close to the coast. Here are images of a pair of se-tenant stamps depicting the arch, inscribed alternately in Afrikaans and English, engraved and printed by Bradbury, Wilkinson & Co., Ltd., and issued for use in South West Africa on March 5, 1931, Scott No. 111, plus an aerial photo of the main arch.

Suomenlinna (aka Sveaborg) is a sea fortress built on six islands forming part of the city of Helsinki, Finland. Construction of the star fortress began in 1748 to a plan strongly influenced by the ideas of the Marquis de Vauban (1633-1707), a French field marshal who was the foremost military engineer of his time, adapted to a group of rocky islands. Here is an image of a stamp depicting the Kuninkaanportti ("King's Gate") of Suomenlinna, designed by Swedish artist Signe "Ham" Hammarsten-Jansson (1881-1970), engraved by Alexander Laurén, and issued by Finland on October 15, 1948 to commemorate the bicentenary of the fort, Scott No. 278, Facit No. 362, plus a photo of the gate.

Bab El Khadra is one of the gates of the medina of Tunis, the capital of Tunisia. The original 1320 gate was destroyed and rebuilt in a distinctly European style in 1881 by the French in order to facilitate commerce. Here is an image of a stamp depicting the gate, designed and engraved by Albert Decaris (1901-1988), and issued for use in Tunisia on May 29, 1954, Scott No. 249, plus an image of a vintage postcard depicting the Bab el Khadra Gate.

The Prytanée National Militaire in the city of La Flèche is a French school offering regular secondary education and also special preparatory classes for students who wish to enter French military academies. Here is an image of a stamp depicting the entrance gate of the Prytanée National Militaire, designed and engraved by Marie-Noëlle Goffin, and issued by France on June 20, 1987, Scott No. 2047, Y&T No. 2479, plus a photo of the gate.

Chellah is a medieval fortified necropolis located south of Rabat, Morocco. Here is an image of a stamp depicting Chellah Gate, designed by French artist Joseph de la Nézière, engraved by Antoine François Dezarrois, and issued for use in French Morocco in 1917, Scott No. 62, plus a photograph of the gate.

Centenary of Utah Statehood
January 4, 1996
Utah became the 45th state of the nation on January 4, 1896. The commemorative stamp features the Delicate Arch, a geologically formed arch that frames the La Sal Mountains. The Arch, located in Arches National Park, is one of the most familiar icons in the state.
