Quite sure there is a message to this stamp, but it is beyond me what that message could be. |

Kum'dori, a Cosmic Sky Elf, and the "cute and likeable" Official Mascot of Taejon Expo '93, designed by Cho Young-je, printed by lithography, and issued by (South) Korea on December 12, 1990, Scott No. 1616. - nethryk |

Just trolling through the topical collecting threads I came across this one and of course got sucked in by the title. However, I must correct a post on the very first page about stamps from the netherlands, easy to scoff - this being unwarranted in the case of that stamp "lookig at the back of a guy's head while using a telephone. If you knew Dutch, you would have seen this stamp commemorates a "telefooncirkel", that is, a service where old and alone people get called once a day to make sure they are OK, and to have a friendly chat. I think the stamp (which also shows the face of an older person - is quite illustrative of that, and by no means ridiculous or Uh? worthy. Sorry, but I can get sometimes really irrtated by Anglophones who think all you need is English.. |

I don't think you quite grasp the point of this thread. It isn't necessarily the "meaning" of a stamp, it is the design, quality of execution, etc. Some stamps just make some people scratch their head for some reason or another. It has NOTHING to do with being against other countries or languages. |

Thank you, Cobie, for a great observation. I too believe that if one has a stamp that is a bit strange, or that one does not quite understand, it should not go on a pile of junk. Instead, as Wt1 shows us time and again, there are ways to understand other people and other ways of life!

It's a normal cow with plastic figurines of animals balanced on its back. The question is how they got them all so balance so perfectly. |
