Re: QEII, Scott 1162 (blue dot above crown)
I found 7 copies out of our 'hoard' of 1480 specimens.
alanl: how many stamps did you go through to find your 7 examples?
7 out of 1480 = 1 in 211 stamps. This implies that it is found on 1 stamp in 2 panes. Hmm?
When I visited the Archives in January 2008 I viewed the press sheet of this stamp. Here is a digitally re-created sheet (reduced for internet viewing; not shown are colour bars down the right side of the sheet).

This stamp was printed in 600 subjects per 'sheet' (not quite accurate as it is a continuous web printing, I believe).
If this 'blue dot' variety existed only once on the sheet of 600 subjects, then I should have only found 2.5 stamps in our hoard of 1480.
My 7 examples suggest that this variety occurs once per pane of 100.
Anyone have a full pane of this stamp to verify the varieties locaion?
