I've decided to make my own pages for US precancels. I have designed a cover page so far. Bought the 67# card stock. I have more thinking to do on the individual pages but I do have an outline of what I want. So the question for me right now is what type of binder to buy . Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks, Dan

You could go fancy and buy the Vario F or G binders with slipcases. There's a popular seller (mit_63 I believe) on ebay who gives a pretty good deal for 3 or 5 of them. I collect way too many countries to spend on them; so I just get the Avery 3-ring sturdy binders from Staples. Ram |

Dan: If you haven't already, use the SEARCH button at the top of this page -- search for BINDER in SUBJECT ONLY and there are about 4 pages of threads where we've discussed almost every vendor in product in existence Kirk |

For the countries I collect that I print my own pages, I agree, I just use the Avery binders from Staples. I've yet to have a problem with them and I see no need for slipcases or the like. |

I'm using the Lighthouse Grande, but that is for my custom pages sized 9 1/2 X 12 1/4.
However, my son is printing Steiner pages and we went to Staples. We didn't like the run-of-the-mill binders like Avery. Why go to the trouble to create a nice collection then house it in an ugly plastic binder? So we looked around and found some Martha Stewart (ugh) branded binders in Staples that looked a lot nicer and cost about the same amount ($10). They look good for the price.
By the way, for my son we purchased nice 80 lb text smooth natural paper (Nina Classic Crest) from the PaperMillStore. It looks and feels very similar to Scott National pages. It looks great in the binders he bought. I purchased the same paper however in 100 lb text and cut to order. Very nice. |

Thank you to all. For now I will keep the pages in a cheap Avery as I have a few. This will keep the pages clean until I chose something nicer. Wow! Those leather albums are so wonderful, never even thought of leather as an option. |

Glad to hear you've made a decision. As far as I'm concerned, people need to decide if they're collecting stamps or collecting binders. I'm a function-over-form guy. I care how it works, not how it looks. |

Every once in a while I see an old corporate minute book with the "piano" hinges and matching slipcase, and I think those would make a very nice binder for album pages. |

It's not about collecting binders vs collecting stamps, its about displaying high end items in something that is appropriate for their value. You wouldn't hinge a mint [insert your favorite valuable stamp], you'd spend the extra bucks and mount it. That's the same logic I'm applying when it comes to selecting binders. For such collectors, its not as if they'd need multiple expensive binders, they'd need 1 or 2 at the very most.
If your collection is not worth using mounts to begin with, or if you need extra binders for your topical collection, then a function over form Avery style binder would be more than suitable, even though IMHO stockbooks would be a better move for such collections.

The only real thing I would recommend with binders is, try and get ones that have a ball and socket ring closure. The pages are less likely to snag when you turn them.

For Binders on the cheap I have been going to the resale shop.. I have seen plenty of avery binders. I have a limit of $1.00 on them.. sometimes only paying 50c each. I have also found old accounting type binders as well. These are heavy duty and a non plastic cover. |

I went into Staples and checked out the Martha Stewart binders. They were $12.99/each for a 1 inch binder. You can get a 2" Bindertek binder for $12.00 and you're not encouraging Martha Stewart |
