As the article suggests, this may cause more confusion than it's worth, but here's another effort in "rebranding" a service that has been provided by the US Post Office for a number of years:

Quote:
In an effort to refresh the public's awareness of Express Mail, the Postal Service decided to change the product's name to Priority Mail Express. The name of Express Mail International is also being changed to Priority Mail Express International to preserve the current naming/packaging relationship between the products.

For US collectors of postal ephemera, here's an early opportunity to collect the various envelopes and labels, etc., that are all imprinted "Express Mail" or "Express Mail International" as when the names change, we can anticipate new printed envelopes and labels to go along with the new designations.

Hi

And the Postal Service wonders why it is going broke. How much is it going to cost to re-brand

No one's saying for certain. The pricetag is likely to be put on the consumer's shoulders, though, when you consider all of the "free" packaging and labels the USPS readily makes available for these services.

So much for the USPS "Going Green"!

Probably not much compared to the overall budget.

I only have a comment and a question. Comment: *sigh* Question: New series of stamps, or is this just a new fancy name that they can give another acronym to? PMEI

I don't think a new series of stamps is needed, since the present Express Mail stamps do not indicate the service type, only the denomination. What I do think is that all of this re-branding is going to cost consumers something and postage increases are the most likely candidate, in which case new stamps will be needed then.

For anyone who may not realize it, the USPS has recently signed a contract with a new marketing firm, and I suspect this is their idea.

Doesn't it seem that the cost for a contract to sign on with a new marketing firm, and then re-branding of all of the Express Mail and Express Mail International services, seem to be a waste of money for a postal service who keeps complaining about all of the money they are losing every day? It seems to me these are all unnecessary expenses when the USPS is in such dire financial straits.

I just get the sense that they're throwing whatever they can think of at the wall and waiting to see if anything will stick.

That's what private companies and new managers do, change things just to change them to look busy.

Outside of larger cities with those few "express mail" mailboxes, I'm afraid that people may not know the concept even exists anymore more than giving things MUCH loooonnnnggggeeerrrr names. I thought Express was good enough.
Actually sounds like branding consolidation. "hey, maybe people don't understand express mail is like faster priority mail." "yes, lets change it to PMEI for short"
