My very limited experience tells me that these perfin stamps are less desirable that the unperforated examples of KGV stamps.

Is that assumption correct?

I am also wondering when the states stopped making official stamps for themselves (as perfins)?

Here is an example (and my first Australia KGV cover):

That would depend on an individual point of view.

The perfins you showed are very popular and in demand.

A lot of the perfin specialist collectors would like this cover for at least a couple of reasons: 1 - it is an 'ident' cover showing official usage and origin of user, 2 - there are other perfin collectors who would check for the type of perfin it is, meaning, for worn pins, a different die pattern etc.

For myself personally, I like this cover the way it is because it is a perfin and would like it less if a regular non-perfin stamp was used.

My opinion of course.

I would agree; this cover would fall in the top 25% of Australian perfin covers, for the reasons cited, plus eye appeal.

Hi
I have seen Perfins for Victoria late into the 1970's but there may even be latter ones

I know you do Smauggie and I appreciate your comments.

Lately, in another forum, I started up a perfins group. It is in FB and in just 3 or 4 months, I have recruited 55 members! In fact, two of those members are also members of the Perfins Club based in the U.S. One is their webmaster and the other is their librarian. Glad to see that I pulled in some big guns :)
