It's been heavily carried in the news media that Canada Post is issuing Superman stamps on September 10, 2013: http://www.canadapost.ca/cpo/apps/s...x=-780&y=-59However, what is not clear to me is why Canada Post is only offering these stamps to residents of Canada and no orders from other countries will be accepted. Does anyone know the reason behind this? Is it due to the "limited edition" status, or is there a copyright thing that prevents their sale outside of Canada? It seems that topical collectors of this sort of thing are going to be faced with premium prices on the secondary market, since the stamps are not available outside of Canada from the original source.

I suspect it has to do with copyright issues. Superman is a trademark owned by DC comics, so they may have made a special deal with Canada Post due the fact that the character was co-created by a Canadian. I remember when they wanted to put up a Pooh statue in White River, Ontario to celebrate the place where "Winnie" was found (the inspiration for Winnie the Pooh), they needed complete approval by Disney. Having said all that, I ordered some for myself as Superman is a character I have always liked. I rarely buy new stamp issues due to cost, but for this one, I went all out (Souvenir sheet, coils, booklets, FDC, even the press sheet...) Perhaps these actually will appreciate in value. Regardless, I plan to use some on my mail. |

There are some big errors with this release. According to the web page, the artist for "1986: Man of Steel #1 Special Collector's Edition" is Dick Giordano, which is entirely incorrect. John Byrne, a Canadian, is the artist and inker for that page. I have not looked yet at the other pages to see if this error is on other pages as well. A more serious omission is the lack of any artwork by Curt Swan, the definitive Superman artist for over thirty years. If you read Superman comic books from the 50's to the early 80's, the Superman you saw was drawn by Curt Swan. Disgraceful that Canada Post did not add any Superman artwork from Curt Swan. |

I have been going through some of the other pages and Dick Giordano is credited on other pages as well. I contacted John Byrne, the actual artist, and he said that the cover was entirely his, pencils and inking. Giordano had nothing to do with it. He was also appalled that there was no Curt Swan image. |

Just discovered that John Byrne is correctly credited on the French page. I wonder how you send in a comment about errors on the CP website? I looked over some of the options but none jumped out. |

Contact Robin Harris (editor of Unitrade Catalog). He used to be on one of the CP committees that looked at new stamp issues. He maybe able to point you in the right direction. rharris@adminware.ca |

It seems to have been corrected. The image is now correctly attributed to John Byrne on the Postcard page. However, no Curt Swan Superman images is just wrong. Would that be a Canada Post decision to omit him or a DC Comics decision? |

If these aren't available to US collectors, what will be the best way to get them? Can I trust just any Canadian Post Office to have them if I drive up there? |

Depends on the size of the post office. Best to call ahead and have them set some aside so you are not disappointed. |

Cemterstage98, I suppose many of the Canadian members of the forum can get you copy of what you need. |

If any friendly neighbors to the north are willing, I would like to add on to their order. I would glady compensate for the time, inconvenience, and postage south. I'm looking for a press sheet, souvineer sheet, one booklet, and one strip of four. |

I see there is already at least one seller on ebay selling a "pre-order" press sheet for $39.99. Quite a markup for something that is not even out yet. My apologies if it is someone reading this forum, I realize business is business. Having said that, if there is someone that would like me to order for them, I can do that. Once they arrive I can forward them on. Please e-mail me via the forum to discuss. You can trust me... Regarding ordering from the Philatelic Centre, US addresses are a no-no. |

Maybe these will be included in the quarterly pack.? This would give everyone a chance to obtain these... In any case, it doesn't make sense to limit direct purchases to Canada only as these can be obtained from resellers quite easily. Or will anyone break the law selling these stamps to someone outside Canada? And how about stamps that were used for postage and did not get cancelled...? Just plain silly what CanadaPost are doing, license fee or not. |
