Hard to get a good picture today as is very cloudy. I can not get the proper colour to show without using a flash. Would this be a 17b(brown & shades) or 16i (chocolate brown)?

Good Colour Match (with flash)

As colour shows in picture with poor light(does not match real colour)

OK I have figured out how to answer my question. The color matches the stamp illustrated on the Canada Post Archives printed on July 1, 1859. It shows a perforation of 12. The Unitrade Catalogue says that the 16i must be perf. 11 3/4 on all edges and the 17b perf. 11 3/4, 12 x 11 3/4. Therefore if this is a 16i the perf. on my picture below must be 11 3/4. I think I need to buy a perf. gauge as I can't tell if this is 11 3/4 or 12 perf. using a ruler.

The chocolate brown is very dark. I don't think that it is a 16 that you have here.

TO calculate perforations with a ruler, you need to count the number of holes in 2 cm. Here, it seems to be at lease 12. IF so, then once again, not a 16.

pepere jack, I have been looking at that last picture and if you count the perfs. there are exactly 12, as you say. So must be a 17b. I just needed a second opinion to wake me up. Thanks!
