Regency in St. Louis is the US distributor for Gibbons. If Gibbons carries them, Regency might be able to get them for you, even though they're not listed on their website. C. |

Not listed on Palo's site- just sent them an email. Hopefully their status as US agent for these will not come as a surprise. |

Just got reply from Palo:
'They are arriving this month, but we didn't want to post them until they were actually here. The price is $8.50 per pack and will be available in the same sizes as our regular mounts. If you want to, you can pre-order them.'
Palo offers the regular mounts in I think 4-5 sizes starting with 33 mm. You can cut them down for specific sizes.

I'm "bumping" this thread -- it's been about 18 months since the original post.
So I'm curious if anyone is using these mounts? Any recent feedback? Thoughts?

The Davo Easy-Mounts look great, if a bit expensive. Might be cheaper, for some, to get a hingeless album. |

So they're finally available in the U.S. after a pretty long wait. What would be useful to find out is how good the mounts are. Does the glue hold? Does the mount ruin the page if you try to remove it like most other mounts do? Is the mount thin enough not to bulk up the album by a great deal? Is the mount crystal clear? I don't even know if they're top opening or split back opening? Has anyone actually compared the prices of these Davo mounts with other mounts? Saying they're more expensive doesn't tell us enough. By how much?
A lot of collectors use mounts only for MNH stamps, but not others, so their pages are not entirely covered with mounts. Others put mounts on all spaces. Others use hingeless albums with mounts already applied. It would be interesting to price out a comparison.
For example, if you bought a regular Davo album and added these mounts to every space, I assume you would be spending more than if you bought Davo's hingeless album, but is that true?
On the other hand, if you mixed used stamps with MNH stamps maybe you wouldn't. It would be nice to have a ground rule like "If you plan to mount all stamps in your album in mounts, buy the hingeless album," but "If you plan to mount less than half your stamps in mounts, you'll save money by buying the regular non-hingeless album and adding your own mounts" -- or something like that. I have no idea which is less expensive, but obviously a hingeless album is going to be a whole lot easier.
Finally, if you actually can remove these mounts from the page without damage to page or mount, can you reuse them? That's another savings if you can. I assume the glue wouldn't work a second time or would it? That's where a glue stick would be helpful.
What is the glue on the Davo mount, by the way? Is it like a post-it note glue (easily removable) or is it a more permanent glue?
Lots of questions. Let's get some answers, if we can. |

DrewM called for some answers to questions about the Davo Easy mounts. Here's my experience so far after mounting about 200 mounts. I am using a Lighthouse #SG606 Supply Lg Mt Cutter (Schneider G). BTW that cutter is working great. My experience with mounts is limited to Crystal Mount back in the day. I started with hinges, went to Crystal Mount, then back to hinges (after getting bitten by the Scotch-tape-to-hold-the-stamps-in-place-method) and finally back to this more modern mount.
- I am using the black mounts because I really like the way they highlight the stamps on the cream paper in my Mystic Heirloom Album. Not sure what may be out there but I did not see any hingless albums with black mounts ... probably because they cover up the pics and numbers. So I can't speak to the questions about economy of using individual mounts vs buying hingeless because they didn't apply to my situation. My plan is to install mounts for stamps as they are needed.
- Yes they are a little pricey but so far they have proven to be good quality ... only ones I've had to throw out are the ones I spoiled.
- Palo Albums have been a joy to deal with. Prompt mailing and they do a great job of packaging these expensive mounts so they arrive flat.
- As I am just installing these in my album I have been turning the pages a bunch. None of the Davo mounts have come loose and I have had no stamps to slide out. I really like the top loading mount. The G mounts from other vendors scare me a little (fear is crushing perfs) and appear to be a little tricky for old fingers to release stamps once the mounts are stuck on the page.
- I have had to remove several of the Davo mounts from the Mystic pages and have found that they release cleanly, do not mar the page in any way and can be restuck at least once ... haven't tried multiple resticks. Have also not tried on my old Harris album pages (probably 24# stock?). The glue is definitely more than a post-it note but as I mentioned above it's not permanent either. I have a bunch of pages that are fully populated with mounts and there is no wrinkling of the page from the adhesive.
- So far as bulking up the album ... it's a likely side effect considering they are additional bulk. Worth it to me to buy another Mystic album.
Only drawback (not to me but may be to some) is they appear to only be available in this country in four heights. So you must cut to length and then to height. Personally I like that because I have to buy fewer packs since I'm not trying to match stamp heights to custom mount heights. Also another benefit of top loading mounts ... you don't lose any functionality by cutting off the top. Cutting the top of the Davo mounts does not appear to hurt performance at all. So the Lighthouse cutter I use is helpful because once I decide on a height and length I make a note of the setting and can return to it because of the scales on the cutter.
Hope all this helpful. Jim Hemphill |

Davo mounts come in both black and clear. I checked their website just to confirm that. I have some questions:
There's the question of the quality of the Davo mounts, particularly whether the glue/moisture will leak into the paper and create buckling on the (back of the) page or not. I don't think we have to worry about the quality of the plastic like in the olden days with the horrible Harris 'Crystal Mounts' which were such a disaster (shrinking, crinkling, bad glue, etc).
There's also a question about how well the self-stick adhesive holds onto the page. Will it last or will mounts fall off the page? Might be worth trying for a few months, but the ideal would be for a few years.
Also to me just as important is the question of how much Davo mounts cost. I don't know if anyone has done a price comparison. I'm not sure you can compare different brands pack to pack since different manufacturers will include more or fewer mounts, so the best approach might be comparing the cost of mounting, say, a typical 100 stamps in various brands of mounts. And it should cover all the usual brands, of course. There's a really helpful project! Anyone up for a little research???

Update, I have been using these and am generally happy with them. I am noting however that the 'peelable' aspect of them may be exaggerated. I am using them on Lighthouse pages and find once attached you have a short window to move or adjust them. After an hour or so they stick like iron and I get page damage when trying to pull them off.
I do think they are slightly thicker than Hawid mounts and I do not get them standing out from the page like I get with Hawid. I would not want to try to use them for remounting an entire collection, too time consuming. Otherwise few issues. |
