Can anyone help in identifying the town shown on the Nov 14, 1868 LQ stamp?

Wert, Thank you for the information. I am always amazed by your ability to adjust colors to isolate details like the cancels on stamps. I would like to learn that skill, since I have many more to check. Is this also a usable tool to identify watermarks? here is one to test....

That town name is more likely SAINT JOHN than Saint Johns.
St. John's is in Nfld.
Nice stamp, yum.

Gilles le timbre...I believe this is the post office that your stamp went through many years ago..And yes, I added the "S" by mistake.

Gilles,
You can use a free online tool located at http://retroreveal.org/ make cancellations clearer. (You have to make an account to upload images but it is free of charge.)

Examples of the resulting images can be viewed here
http://retroreveal.org/images (click on "Simplified View").

Of course you can also achieve the same results in any imaging/graphics application by using various filters that come with the app. See 'help' file in the application for how this can be done (instructions differ depending on the application.)

Yes Saint John NB and on Bothwell Paper, you should check for watermark. Colour adjustment is not helpful for watermarks, incident light helps a bit. Fluid is best.

You can try lowering brightness and increasing contrast

Gilles le timbre...This is about as good as I can get it with using your original picture of back of stamp with no watermark fluid..I think I can see the watermark when put beside your stamp back that you dipped in watermark solution..??

Thanks Wert. I guess I'll have to continue using the Wmkd fluid and my blackberry camera to identify the rest of my Large queens...
