Hi guys...Here is NFLD Scott # 72 and 72a.

********************************************************************************************************************************************

The Scott #72 was replaced with the Scott #72a because the letter "Z" was printed backwards...see below

********************************************************************************************************************************************

The difference to was the lines not duplicated from one stamp to another..see below.

********************************************************************************************************************************************

The real question I have is what is this extra lines in the Scott #72 as shown below...

Something foreign on the plate might cause this. Again, it does not look like a plate crack to me; most plate cracks look a lot more jagged. Could have been any kind of dirt causing this during the printing process. Pretty stamps!

I also think of a foreign object on the plate. Notice the inkless circular form around the area, the left side of the numeral 6 and the circle around the six below the scratch

Wert, how did you manage to catch it? Took a nap and got refreshed? Just kidding of course. But you know, one does not really have to know the catalog number to talk about this kind of variety! Still, keep those pictures coming, they are some very beautiful and interesting stamps.

HAHA..Your absolutely right Peter...

you know how I caught it, I was thinking about a NFLD Scott #72 that I ordered on India paper and remember saying to myself, great I dont have a #72 and that will be good in my collection..Then the lights came on..

Was wondering that "IF" some thing like this or other finds are truly new varieties, how does one get them recognized by Unitrade or get them acknowledged among the stamp world..??

I think you would have to prove that it is a constant variety first and then send you finding to people at Unitrade and to important people in the Canadian stamp circle like gpôrch and Mr Trimble.

That is the easy part sending it away to these people, the hard part Coriandre finding the constant..every one who owns a scott # 92 or 92a would have to post it here with the same oddity or at least one person would have to post it here, easier said than done.

The way our stamp collecting process is set up does not make it easy to accomplish information gathering..It is a shame.

It might help if say the stampcommunity website set up another area called say "Constant plate search"..??

The best would be to find a picture of a full sheet. Look at auction house sales for large multiples perhaps.
