I have accepted the position of Promotional Secretary of the Precancel Stamp Society [PSS, US]. I am online a lot and SCF is one of my favorite sites! So, from time to time I will be wearing that hat here. My mission statement being: "Bring the exciting precancel message to stamp collectors worldwide. Develop and implement new ways to encourage PSS membership." Comments welcome - and as always, we love to see pictures of stamps especially precancels. Charles Adrion [chasa]

Thanks. I have a boatload of pre-cancels acquired from various places and I have the bureau and city/town catalogs from PSS. I also acquired a rather large collection about 18 months ago. I just haven't had time or incentive to work on them. Seems a daunting task given the quantity of stamps and the decisions about how to organize them.
Hopefully we can look forward to reading more posts about stamps in this area in any case. |

That's a neat oddity you posted! Some of my favorites are the quasi-pictorial precancels like the tombstone, Arizona and Cincinnati horseshoe, as well as the early silent precancels. Do your "duties" include these types of precancels? |

I am wondering about this one. I assume the 9 - 01 is the date...? Is this part of the precancel? Or was it added separately? Is it common? |

HungaryForStamps: precancels can be daunting, it is estimated that in the US area there are 2 million different! The good news is that 95% of them are very common and you can make a nice collection with small outlay, orstampman: Yes, all those are part of the US precancel universe. The tombstone is from Fort Wayne Indiana as stampcrow shows. Here is the list of known varieties from the new PSS Classics catalog: stampcrow: You have the start of a good Schermack/precancel collection. Everything known could probably fit on two pages. There are not too many different. That Boston Mass dated stamp is a precancel, listed in the Classics catalog for 5.00 , it is one of the harder dates - the series ran from 6-01 to 4-02. They changed the whole 100 subject printing plate each month. |

chasa,
What is the status of PSS's website? I can't get beyond the home page. |

I collect only pre-cancels from Michigan cities. These are my multiple blocks. The postage due was a block of 4 but when I took it out of the stock card it was mailed in, the lower left stamp was not completely attached and it fell off. |

Taking a break from the 1851-57 three cent stamps. Thought I'd add some precancel pics. I don't think the 11 cent is a precancel. |
