Hello to everyone. This may be a simple question, but I am trying to understand and learn about these precancels I received with the lot of precancel stamps.
Due to the bar/ lines are wavy instead of straight line and looks like done with pen ink( rubber roller, possibly) is this considered a genuine precancel with town and state seen on it? Are these commonly known with bulk methods of printing? Could this be considered a favour stamp? I have not seen a US precancel stamp with wavy lines before as a precancel, only with early Canadian types of precancels. It caught my attention since it strange from the other precancel stamps.
Any information will be appreciated. Thank you again in advance for your assistance.
Warm Regards,

Blazenstar

This is a precancel, called a Saint Joseph MI L-11 HS. The PSS catalog notes: 'straight lines or wavy'. It is believed that the wavy lines came from warping of the rubber. Genuine, not a favor, these were used in large quantities.

Great! I was concern it not being genuine since I never view it with wavy lines before. That is intersting in case I come across stamps like this in the future.
can you recommend a book just for US precancels to determine the value of the ones that are scarce with town and cities? I have many of these precancels and I truly want them check them out correctly. We do not have a precancel stamp club in my area. The stamp collectors I know do not often concentrate on them which maybe due to not having information and prefer not to bothered. I have been to stamp shows, they don't have vendors there that specifically sell precancels. I went online to PDF readings also about precancels and looking through specific auctions that sold them at different locations.( Thank you to one of the posters who informed me in past) I went to my local stamp store and they did not have any books concentrating on precancels. I have seen many stamp vendors selling bulks in stock books for them for very limited prices, including on ebay due to not bother learn about them. Thinking they may not valuable which is not true at all. As matter of fact, it may increase the value of certain stamps which need to know which city and towns are scarce.
I am curious, Has anyone ever made a list in the threads of the community which are considered the most scarce of towns and cities on specific stamps? I have many locals, bureau stamps too in different positions including inverted ones.

Thank you again. your information was very helpful. smiles

Warm Regards,

Blazenstar
