As per title, 1835 MARITIME LONDON BOXED PACKET LETTER POSTMARK ON PART LETTER TO ST ALBANS In that case St Albans is in Hertfordshire, north of London. The double CDS, I read Jan 1836, in red belongs to London. About the charge of 2/2 (26d) it was possibly calculated as: + 1/3 (15d), packet letter rate by Falmouth from West Indies, America & St Domingo + 1/- (12d), inland rate Falmouth - St Albans - 1d, inland reduction for letters via Falmouth Above 1835 there's written something, maybe the name of a city ?

1842 TRANSATLANTIC NEW ORLEANS SHIP LETTER MAILED TO HUTH & Co LONDON H/S 2dThe letter is very interesting because it was written from New Orleans and it arrived to UK by ship ... but it was not a so called "ship letter". In my opinion someone brought the letter to UK in his pocket and then he posted it at the receiving-house of Cornhill. The letter was then charged for 2d because it was sent unpaid. The red postmark on the back belongs to the Twopenny post office (district post office) of London. |

1826 MARITIME LIVERPOOL SHIP LETTER TO CARLISLE ENGLAND FROM UNKNOWN COUNTRYIn the beginning the letter was charged for 1/6 (18d) because: + 8d, incoming ship letter + 10d, inland rate between Liverpool and Carlisle but then the clerk saw an enclosure inside and so the letter was charged for the double: 3/- (36d) |

I've found an interesting item you are selling: The letter was sent from London to Inverkeithing and it was redirected back to London. Inverkeithing was 13 miles far from Edinburgh as it can been seen from this map of 1846: The postmarks on the back can help to trace a possible route. Departure from London on 14 Oct at 6:00pm (EF / OC-14 / 1846) and arrival at Edinburgh on 15 Oct at 10:48pm (OCT / A 15 N / 1846). Departure from Edinburgh on 16 Oct at 5:30am and arrival at Inverkeithing on 16 Oct at 7:00am. Redirected and charged for 1d with departure from Inverkeithing on 16 Oct at 6:15pm and arrival at Edinburgh on 16 Oct at 9:16pm. ( see previous table, the right column ) Departure from Edinburgh on 17 Oct at 01:09am and arrival at London on 18 Oct at 6:00am. |

About this letter some info can be added. the postmark (the one at the left of the stamp) of the receiving house seems to be TP/EO Strand, but I've my books far from here so I cannot be 100% sure. IMHO the plate is 1b, it has a very distinctive O of ONE! You can see all the plates for HK here: https://www.spink.com/custom/stamps...large/HK.jpg |

1766 RARE LIETFIE (should be Leitfie) LETTER BY JOHN STEILL TO JAMES SMYTH OF BALHARRY IN EDINBURGH Letter written at Leitfie: this is from a map of 1783: The letter was charged for 2d, Act, 9 Anne, Cap. 10 effective 1 June 1711), from Edinburgh within Scotland for any place not exceeding 50 English miles. I'd guess the letter was sent from Perth, it was ~40 miles far from Edinburgh. From a map of 1775 we can see a part of the route: |
