I am considering purchasing "reference manual of forgeries by Bohne" There appears to be about 14 volumes. This is in an effort to confirm genuine vs forgeries on a rather large dollar value of Hungary, Italy, Mexico etc. If sending these out for expertise analysis it is an est. $3 - 4K in cost. The feedback from this group is greatly appreciated. Will this purchase of approximately $400 be a worthwhile acquisition in this endeavor?

Well - just answered my own question. Looks like 14 volumes is just for Germany? Wow. |

That is a lot of forgeries. I sometimes wonder if the forgers really made a lot of money, or if they just liked making the forgeries. |

Wheelman, they only cover Germany, not the other countries you mention. |

Hi wheelman You can also download Album Weeds from Google Books. URL: https://books.google.com/books?id=i...ge&q&f=falseWhen the page is displayed, click on Options (little gear) in upper right corner and select " Download PDF" Also, look around Google books. You may find something useful. Most Google Books are free down-loads. Jerry B |

The Germany forgery manuals can be purchased on CD ROM from the Germany Philatelic Society: http://germanyphilatelicsocietyusa.org/sales.html You can purchase smaller portions if you're only interested in, say, German States. I own a set and find them invaluable for German material. While the GPS manuals aren't the end of the story when it comes to reference material on German-area forgeries, they do show what a genuine stamp should look like, which is a great help in and of itself. And it can help me determine whether I even want to bother authenticating myself at all. For example the Berlin overprints from 1948-9 have 50-odd types of forgeries. That tells me to not even bother and buy expertized copies from the start. |

I have the binders. I'd generally prefer to have the CDs. If space is not an issue, the binders and slipcases do look pretty neat.
Whatever the format, the information is great to have, even though I'm more of a Commonwealth guy. |

Found a great dealer while I was in Branson Mo and found a full set of Weeds in My Album. Guess I am just a little old fashion but I like to turn pages whether researching or just plain reading. |
