Going through some Kiloware, I found this horizontal pair of what I believe is MH3 Machin. I researched the company overprint a litle and found this link http://cosgb.blogspot.ca/2014/05/tu...company.html but there is no mention of a MH3.

Because of the overprint these stamps SHOULD only have been used for revenue purposes. When companies knew of the impending end of UK Stamp Duty they frequently used them for postage which should have in theory attracted a postage due charge.

This post stirred some sad memories for me. My maternal grandfather worked at Turners in Trafford Park for many years from just before WWII, and he only enjoyed a couple of years of healthy retirement.
The heath issues surrounding the material were not as well known as they are today, and that goes for a lot of other industries.
I have worked in aviation for almost 40 years and many substances in common use when I started are now banned, due to better knowledge of their effects.
I have never come across any of these overprints before, now I will actively seek them out now as a family history link.

I am sorry to hear of your father. My father died at a young age of 69 after working on aircraft in the RCAF and DND. We never knew the real cause of his cancer.
