It appears Villeneuve's hometown is wrong - as you already suspected:
"This is quoted from an article on Canadian Stamps News website which has been taken down for unknown reasons:

'Instead of Villeneuve's actual birthplace of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que., his birthplace is erroneously listed as Berthierville, Que., which is about 120 kilometres north of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.

"We regret the error," said Phil Legault, Canada Post media relations, adding a "new version is available now online to pre-order with delivery and in post offices by mid-June."

A total of 11,000 Villeneuve OFDCs were originally slated for printing.'"

I saw this by chance in this listing:

I have a friend who is in contact with Jim Phillips, Director, Stamps Services at Canada Post.
He said to my friend that the correction will be on the French Version only. Because the definition
of Hometown is large in English.
Definition of Hometown: The city or town where one was born or grew up; also, the place of one's
principal residence. Anyway, Gilles Villeneuve is born January 18, 1950 at Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu,
Québec. The family moved to Berthierville, Québec in 1958.
We were able to find few sets of 5 Friday May 19 just before the recall.

You would have a hell of a time trying to convince the citizens of Berthierville who have built a museum to his honour and named their main street after him that Berthierville was not Gilles Villeneuve's hometown.

In the French version they say "ville natale".

I managed to grab one before the recall, in your guys opinion how much does something like this fetch? I'm still torn on selling it or keeping it just based on this information.

The UNESCO recalled Postal Card UX427 sells for $500.00, so this is probably in the same ballpark. It was also recalled shortly after they started to fill standing orders, phone in orders and counter sales.

Sorry, BlackJag. This is NOT is the same ballpark as the Hoodoo Booboo. That was a stationery product with a Unitrade/Scott number.
This is a write-up on an envelope - the stamp (indicia) is not affected. From what I can tell from the folks in this blog, OFDC's are not very popular.
The question is: do you sell it if you get a great offer - or keep it on spec. My opinion is: the first values will be the highest.

sak, I agree that OFDCs are not very popular, but any recalled item due to an error is valuable to collectors of EFOs.

The publication New Specialized Catalogue of Canada Post OFFICIAL FIRST DAY COVERS, Fourth Edition, by Andrew Chung and R.F. Narbonne, details many EFOs all related to OFDCs. One example is the six stamp (SC 705 to SC 711) Wildflowers definitives combination OFDC cover of April 22, 1977. When the two cancellations on the cover were inverted due to misfeeding, the value is $150.00 versus the normally cancelled cover having a value of only $1.60. The inversion meant that none of the stamps were cancelled as the two cancellations appeared on the opposite side of the cover. In your terminology, the six different stamps (indicia) were not affected.

I also agree that the first values will be highest as no-one knows how many are in the hands of collectors.

I went to order another press sheet online, and it says they are no longer available.

I guess they are sold out.

Ouch! I wasn't paying enough attention in the past month, and I missed out on the issue/recall/re-issue. I'd really like to buy an original Villeneuve OFDC (huge F1 fan, big Villeneuve fan, pretty committed OFDC fan). I know it's going to cost me. Anybody got one, or have a suggestion where I'd find one?

Dear collectors,

Do you know that there exist 5 different cancellations on FDCs?
Cancellation on each cover represents the particular wheel and rim of each driver's
winning race car.
I missed this detail when I made my personnal FDCs.
In the future I will pay attention when several FDCs are issued for the same subject.
