It's got the thick toga lines and 1 shading line in each of the scrolls. Is there anything else to look for? Help is greatly appreciated.

I found it in a somewhat well organized accumulation next to another 2c Washington labeled #461, but it was perf. 10 not 11. So I'm skeptical now of the previous owner's notations. I figured I'd double check this one.

Sure looks like offset printing to me, type VII, Scott 528B.

Well then...

Two votes for 528B and two votes for 500.

Here are some microscope images with a greater degree of clarity.

I hope this isn't like the joke about the five Greek stamp experts who identified a Hermes head and came back with six opinions.

My initial impression was that this was probably an offset printing. Another vote for 528B. You might check the reverse for setoff ... which presumably won't be present.

Most likely offset. Check out the eyebrow. Somebody once told me that the lack of detail around the eye (especially the eyebrow) is a dead giveaway.

For comparison purposes. Sc 500 to the left, 528B to the right. As Jack pointed out, look to the eyes. Also, the first line on the right ribbon clearly is made up of 3 distinct dashes on the 528B (and yours).

I'm in the 528B camp, and suggest that a scan of the back will show no setoff.

Wrong shade for #500. It's carmine, and 500 is a very distinct shade of rose. Kind of jumps out at you when you find one in a pile of carmine 2c reds. Definitely an offset.

Definitely offset printing - no chance of being engraved Scott 500. Agree with others who believe it's type VII Scott 528B.
