Thanks for the back photo... positively offset... no setoff specks which would be expected with Flat Press.

Appletonco, have you checked for a watermark?

The color (shade? I can never keep straight the appropriate terminology of color vs shade) appears to me similar to the deep rose of Type 1A, allowing for the problems of color via monitors. But I've seen several offset stamps that had similar coloring.

Doesn't anyone get it? The paper as seen in the view of the back of the stamp from the OP only confirms that the stamp was from an offset printing. The stamp is unambiguously an Scott type VII 528B. To believe it to be anything else is wishful thinking. I realize that some stamp dealers encourage such thinking because it helps sell stamps.

I hope the Washington/Franklin course at the APS Summer Seminar is filled because some of the posters here have signed up to attend.

The last 2CENT2 production stamp with a watermark was #461... all subsequent w/f's, irrespective of offset, flat press or rotary were produced on unwatermarked paper.

of course #500 has no watermark. That was a foolish comment to throw out there, and I hope it was not confusing for the OP. That should teach me to put in responses while distracted.
