Is there a recommendation out there for a good stamp identifier? Going through the thousands of stamps I've inherited and just trying to at least sort by country and need some way to identify the stamps.

The two links below have helped me out on occasion.

http://www.iswsc.org/iswsc_identifier.html

http://www.thestampcollector.net/index.html

If you are looking for a cheap book with photos of some of the harder to determine items, the Linns "Stamp Identifier" has been useful for me as well. I am not associated with them but you can find the book in many places on line.

Hope this helps.

I appreciate the in-depth one that's at the back of every volume of the Scott Catalog. Your local library (at a main location, if not a branch) may well have them. Typically, the most recent edition is in reference and doesn't circulate, but the earlier editions do circulate. As far as I know, their identifier hasn't changed or hasn't changed much in the last several years, so a fairly recent copy that you could check out might likely prove to be helpful for you.

Also, at the beginning of every volume is a really terrific introduction that's a great overview of stamp collecting.

The identifier and the introductory pieces do not vary from volume to volume, so any recent volume on the shelves for check out should do the trick!

Hi lwr

StampWorld is a good place. Also, I did part time work for a stamp dealer until he retired. For helping with sorting and identifying stamps for stock a set of "identifier" tables were created.

You can have all the tables by going to:

and downloading the StampRefs folder.

Note: Anyone can have these tables if they wish.
