Thanks for the link StamperMA
I have already downloaded 4 huge PDF books, some being almost 400 pages..LOTS AND LOTS OF INFORMATION.
Robert
P.S. all collectors out there, just dont see cancels...think about what you are looking at..there is a deeper story when and where they originated..You could find rare or very interesting cancels. |

This has nothing to do with COULSON but this is an example of a cancel that is really RARE. This example is one of two known and is listed in Duckworth's 2nd printing on Page 27. It is a ST CATHERINES postmark prior to the Release Date of April 1, 1868. |

It is a fragment, not a cover. Let's call it what it is.
Certainly it's a remarkable survivor. The cancel isn't rare, even with the spelling variant. The stamp isn't rare. The combination of stamp and cancel, with a knowledge of Large Queens, makes it rare. I assume it got a good cert? |

Oddly enough, it has a brand new VGG Certificate. I was offered $2000 for it and have shown it to Large Queen collectors at the PSSC who admired it and wanted to purchase it. Some of us do enjoy the LQ Issue. Here's page 27 from Duckworth's 2nd printing. Maybe there are more than the 2 copies listed. Can you post your copy? It's hard sending stamps to VGG to get expertized when you know that there are attitudes like yours judging the stamps. I think you would get more business if you were just nicer. |

ERDs (earliest recorded dates) do show up out of nowhere sometimes. I suggest you take that offer. My comment on the piece was fair and accurate, jimjung, unlike your personal attack. |

But Glenn, it is true. You are not nice sometimes. I quit collecting LQ's because you are harsh on people and stamps. I don't send stuff to the VGG because I feel that it will be taken as fake unless proven to be real. It should be the other way around. I used to send you emails but notice I haven't in awhile. Your knowledge is great but your bedside manner needs work. "Let's call it what it is." and "I assume it got a good cert?" are not nice ways to say it.
btw: your stamp is MR 28 1868: two days later than the ERD. A knowledgeable collector told me once that even a day makes all the difference. If you have the 1st day of release, it's worth a mint but the 2nd day isn't worth as much and the difference is quite significant.
My front will be in the June Eastern sale. Here is Yohann's description of the Lot:
22b 1868 (March 26) A well centered 1c brown red on thin crisp wove paper tied to large portion of a circular, clear St. Catherines, C.W. MR 26 68 duplex grid, addressed to London, Ontario. Horizontal fold and small tear at right clear of stamp and postmark. A significant and remarkable Large Queen dated item, postmarked prior to the official First Day of Issue of April 1st. Only a small number (of any denomination) are known to exist on or off cover. A great item destined for an exhibit collection, F-VF; 2018 Greene Foundation cert.
This is what John Jamieson said about this subject:
We sold this 3¢ to XxxxxxxxxxxX in Jan 2009 for $1,295.00. Your front should be worth more than this if you get a V.G.Greene cert for it.
CANADA 25 3c Red Large Queen cancelled "MAGOG EC AP 1/1868" the "OFFICIAL" FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Singles dated MR 28 & 31 & cover with 2c LQ dated MR 31/68 recorded by Duckworth. Ex Baron ($950 2/93), Kanne & Bileski. SHOWPIECE! 106149.0 F-VF Used FDC Our price: $1,295.00
and we also sold
CANADA 25 3c Red Large Queen tied on cover by "GALT C.W. AM AP 1/68" the "OFFICIAL" FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. "BERLIN C.W. AP 1/68" bkstp. Cover w/2¢ dated MR 31/68 recorded. VGG cert #2562. Ex Baron (Lum US$3,000 8/85). 117202.0 F-VF Used FDC Our price: $3,950.00 which we sold in Jul 2013 for our asking price. This would be better than yours as it was a whole cover.
If I have your "front" I would price it at $2,000 to $2,500

I have seen many cancels from BC with # 35. This is a bit rarer to find a # 28 (Burrard Inlet). Here is a picture. |

Robert, this is mine. I acquired it in Ottawa last week end, trying to complete my BC collection. At 1st, wasn't looking for a cancel, just a decent copy of # 9. |
