Here is a Newfoundland Scott 268 (N.S.S.C. 253).

Newfoundland ran out of 2 cent stamps, so they took overprinted the 30 cent stamp to fill the void...While going through my Scott 268 stamps I came across some thing that was not quite normal with the over print.

Here below is the normal Scott over print stamp.

I looked through about 20 singles, about 2 plate blocks and about 10 blocks...Below is 3 normal blocks on the left and the variety highlighted by colours.
The blue squares indicate what I call "water drop" the yellow squares indicate what I call "cap" variety.

Below is an isolated pair as to see the variety I am talking about.

There is saying..One variety, maybe not a constant..2 varieties, probable constant..Three varieties, well you know.
Have a look and see if anyone else has this variety.

Robert

Not very unusual Robert. These overprints were probably done with rubber mats similar to those that were used to overprint precancels. All sorts of problems can be found on these stamps - I have albums full of overprint varieties on the US transportation Coils.
