Haven't been on here in some time. Finally broke into the dollar Jubilees. Got this mint never hinged and was wondering if there is any use in getting it graded, or leaving it for what it is. Either way I'm happy with my purchase.

Thanks for any info.

I would definitely not have it graded. The centering is not that great, it has a small stain on the right side and the LL corner has a crease/perf damage. I would have it looked at though for regumming and/or reperfing. Your scans are not very clear but the pronounced curling leads me to at least suspect regumming.

I would say no. It would have to be fairly close to perfectly centered before premium prices would kick in to justify the cost of certification. And at that level, the grading is nit-picking so that the normal short perfs at the top corners would reduce the grade slightly. But as rogdcam noted, there is a small spot on the right side.

If you needed to argue whether it's NH or not, that's dependent on your experience identifying NH stamps of the period. The images here are too blurry to say one way or another. So the curling may or may not be just from wherever you are being more humid than wherever the stamp came from before.

I have a couple of them, but not want to have it certified unless they were perfectly centered and perfect perf. tips.

I would enjoy it and keep it..Just my opinion.

I personally would only send a Canadian stamp in to prove if it was genuine or not. Such as a Scotts No.1 to make sure it's not just a 4. That I would like to see in writing. Centering and condition speak for themselves most of the time if Unitrade goes no further than VF.

Just to be clear, PSE also publishes a SMQ for graded Canadian stamps.

I have seen PSE graded Canadian stamps on ebay. Does not seem very natural. What I don't recognize is where the inflated prices come from. There are no yellow pages in Unitrade, so PSE should have a very difficult time impressing collectors north of the border.

I could see getting a cert for NH but not graded. I would call this a 75. I wouldn't grade anything relatively common/available, even if expensive unless you think it could grade 90 or greater

Thanks for the info. I guess I was more concerned about the Never Hinged part and if it was regummed.

Removing the pics makes the thread less useful down the road.

I think your original question may have created confusion. I see two facets here:

1. It is worth grading? Which has been a fairly strong "no" response.

2. Is it worth certifying? Which will get you an answer on the original gum and never hinged status, and which seems to be what you are really wanting to know.

Is this a better understanding of your focus?

By all means get it certified to determine all aspects of the stamp are genuine. That is always a good move on more valuable items. I always do this if I want some aspect of a stamp confirmed. I have never sent any of my stamps to be graded as far as centering is concerned.
