Well this is a new one. I got a mailing from an ebay seller today, thought it smelled of cigar smoke then suspected some other substance. I asked my wife to sniff the envelope and contents. She's a bit younger than I, grew up in the 80's. One sniff- 'It's pot' she said.

He also shorted me one item, must be hard to fill orders when you're stoned. messaged him but didn't mention the other issue, nor will I. He's going on my 'Do not buy from' list. Crazy world.

Not surprised. I can remember getting APS circuits in the 1990s and many of them came smelling of cigarettes. People that smoke (whatever) forget that everything around them ends up smelling like smoke.

I assume unsmoked Cannabis is what drug dogs are trained to detect. If not this loon could be creating issues for his customers. I may wait for the issue of the missing item to resolve than advise that his mailing smelled odd or something then let him get the message. I make no judgement on people who decide to indulge in this stuff. I just think sellers who do not take precautions that their stuff doesn't smell like it are really clueless.

Just curious: was the seller from a state that has decriminalized/legalized the personal use of marijuana?

I know that since the laws were liberalized here in California recently I seem to smell it out in public more than I used to.

Good question, he's listed as being in Virginia. I doubt it's legal there.

Once the issue of the missing item is resolved I feel like messaging him that his mailing smelled of 'cigar' smoke and that I felt he needed to be aware of it. It's probably like a cigarette smoker, they have no idea how they and their stuff smells.

No one should be surprised. It's only going to become more common, not less.

Recreational marijuana is legal in 9 states. Medical marijuana is legal in another 20.

Pass me that page of stamps. I'm not feeling too good, and I need to inhale.

If it really is marijuana, it's regrettable that anyone makes their stamps smell that way. The same goes for cigarette smoke. I've returned any number of albums which smelled badly of smoke.

Yep, as a Colorado native I add to my list monthly the new places I smell smoked marijuana: the Zoo, Red Rocks Amphitheater, the creekside trail in my neighborhood, etc...

Pot use of very prevelant, consequences not understood, harm of use normalized, people taken advantage of, industry putting profit before public health, legislation approved ahead of scientific study. Now smoked pot is in a topic on a stamp collecting thread? SMH :-/

I had already reported late receipt on my purchase when it arrived, postmark indicates it was not mailed over a week. Right after receipt I got a Paypal refund for the one item (out of three) I'd used to report non receipt on. So now it's a real mess. I still have not received the third item- he'd previously told me he was sending it. If it sows up I will refund back what I got for the late item. If it doesn't, then I won't. Some folks are just not worth messing with.

I agree with pascoe. I don't want this to turn into a discussion on Pot, but I worry thst social pressures are driving us headlong into legalizing something that has ramifications we may regret later. I am amazed at how it is being mainstreamed. For years we'e received mailings and emails from alternative health companies offering various nutritional products. Lately many of their offerings feature Cannabis products. It's still illegal where I live and I have had to ask some of these people to take us off their lists. It's sad that places like the zoo, nature trails, etc are now frequented by people who want to get high while enjoying therm, why? I just don't get it. end of editorial.

Of course there are pot heads who do little more than smoke dope, crash on the couch, and eat Doritos. And certainly no one wants to get some stamps which reek of dope, that is not acceptable in my opinion.

But as a Stage 4 cancer patient, as a person who has dealt with 3 years of chemo, as a person who has 200+ medical procedures per year, as a person who has experience with many palliative care patients; I can tell you that there are valid reasons to use marijuana. For example; if you live with nausea 24/7 you know that it is impossible to maintain your weight and nutrition. The last thing you want to do is even think about food; for this reason alone marijuana can be a life saver. Constant, debilitating pain is another reason that some patients use it, some patients would rather use pot than opioids.

My mother, who is 82, was part of the 'reefer madness' generation and that was how she raised me. It has only been in the last few years that she has changed her mind due to her health issues. It is a bit scary just how quickly pain and discomfort change the way you have always thought about something. We should acknowledge that after just a few days of great pain most all of us would be ready to call it quits.

It is a shame that some folks over-react to this topic. But the same over-reaction can be seen in the opioid abuse stories we see today; the media rarely reports on how these negative stories impact those who need these drugs just to tolerate staying alive.

I could not agree more with you Don.

PS: I would much rather deal with somebody that smoked pot than a sloppy drunk any day.

Someone on another online forum that I frequent was recently in Denver, and he commented that in the few blocks that he walked through the 16th Street pedestrian mall, about 1 in 5 people were smoking pot.

Meanwhile, here in the People's Republic of Berkeley, I haven't noticed a big increase since legalization. The smell has never been uncommon here.
