Her is another couple of neat oddities.

The stamp below is a normal Scott 0236a perfin stamp.

Take a look at these Scott 0236a stamps..One can follow the degradation of perforation perfins as they are run through the machine

A - stamps show missing hole on the H" above and below stamps.
B - Shows missing holes the same but missing pin hole on the "S" also.

Now if you think that is neat, take look at the Scott 0239a stamp below...Double perfed so much, it torn away from the actual stamp.

The double perf example is cool. The "missing" perfs above though, just look to be blind perfs, not missing (you can see the indentations). Not uncommon on any type of perforation.

hi revenuecollector

Was not trying to say they were uncommon. but that I tracked 2 stamps from the same run and maybe from the same sheet.

Well, Revenue collector, I see something different on the B stamps. The S has both a blind perf and a missing perf on the top roght postion of the S (Normaly, the S contains 9 holes. In Wert example, I see 7 full, one partial and one missing (below the partial one)

Thanks for checking Robert. I understand the Cartier ones are quite hard to find anyway. I found a position F in Auction, and already have position A. I'll continue looking for the other positions

How many OHMS positions from the sheet have you found so far.

Lots of luck..That will be a time consuming ordeal.

Wert, so far I only identified 2 positions: A and F. These are described in BNAPS study group newsletter the BNA Perforator Vol. 1, #7

Dynamode,
it appears to be normal. There are 8 different possibilities, called positions A to H. here is the link to the nomenclature proposed by the BNAPS study group

Gilles. Thanks. I never realised perfins could be so complicated.

wert. Your perfin posts I think may turn into a definitive guide. So much good information has already been added. And you have tens of thousands to go through. Good hunting.

I never thought of checking to see if the O.H.M.S.perfins follow the same process..??

Robert

Wow..Surprised to find a 4th stamp to add to the first post..The left stamp fits in.

Wert,
you should consider changing the topic to OHMS perfins?

Here is a little knowledge for novice stamp collectors and even knowledgeable stamp collectors...
The first stamp is a normal Scott 0270c perfin stamp...OR IS IT.

The stamp has O.H.M.S. perfin upside down and left to right (should be right to left)..See picture below...As a matter of fact, I went through an envelope with 500 hundred stamps and 100% were backwards..

And here is a couple of strips of 6 showing you pin deterioration even from one stamp to the next.
