Here is and example of a good double print found on a cover with the "Vancouver 2010" overprint...Below are 2 of these covers.

Below is a normal overprint on this cover.

Below is the actual double print as you can see in the stem of the maple leaf.

At first I thought it might be a "slip print" or a "kiss print" but was not...Ralph's (re-entries.com) explanation of double prints are explained below....

Quote:
True double prints are quite a different matter, and in most cases, quite rare. A true double print is just that - printed twice, from a fully inked plate, receiving two complete, full impressions caused by passing through the printing press twice.

There are lots and lots of shifted prints in the Scott 1931 (NO Vancouver 2010 overprints)..This was a nice little find.

Would not the entire design show signs of a double print?

You bring up a good point Don..Let me explain.
The original stamp design was Scott 1931 back in Jan.2.2002...The Scott 1991 with "Vancouver 2010" overprint was printed in Jun.11.2003..IF they had extras left over and ran them through the presses tp provide a need for Vancouver Olympics..

The overprint is normal but if they printed the maple leaf again, it would be extremely hard to line up the sheets again.

Below is the RED integrity of the maple leaf stem colour...One print shows RED 157 and the other RED 94..As shown with the 2 charts below.

As I said before as being a printer, the plate, rollers and paint reservoir were cleaned/washed with solvents..On another run it is IMPOSSIBLE to create the exact ink colour...That is why the 2010 logo is normal.

The flag on this stamp was printed with two different red colours/cylinders. Check out the colour dots.

What you have is a minor colour shift, NOT a double print in anyway.

I agree with studystamps. The colors are misregistered for the leaf which is printed in two colors.

Hi Robert,
Love your sense of humour!
Sorry, I think this is just a mis-registration of colours.

You guys were correct...I bow to your knowledge...

Oh BTW the humour was I said to Ralph...
