First off I'm dad and I can guarantee two things. I'm fully alive and well. Second my stamp collection will make no one rich.

I have some 60 binders and albums and way too many boxes of stamps to count. If you didn't know anything about stamps you would look at it and see multiple $$$$ signs.

And if you just knew enough to be dangerous you would see all kind of rare stamps. Just more $$$$$$ signs.

Truth be told there is no money there. Just thousands and thousands of stamps. Now there could be that very rare chance that I missed something when going through my Washington's, after all at last count I have over 5,000. But after going through them more times than I cam count I could say it's a safe bet it isn't there.

I have an extremly large collection of foreign stamps. Sorry nothing there too.

My point is my collection holds no riches. Now there are some higher valued stamps but nothing that is going to pad the bank account that much.

All my classics are properly marked. In fact everything is clearly marked. Most importantly I have placed a large letter with my collection pointing out the stamps that have some value and pointing out the fact that 99% of my collection are just common low value stamps.

I just didn't want to see my family wasting time thinking there was more to it. I have one daughter that may take it over, she was briefly into stamps. If not then the are free to dispose of it as they see fit.

My point is this do your family a favor. Point out the value of your collection so they know. Heck probably the best fun my family would have is using the ton and I mean ton of mint stamps as postage. Would be cool to see plate blocks as postage.

Just be kind let them know what you have.

Well Said MK

Your collection sound a lot like mine. Takes up a whole lot of real Estate and gives me lots of pleasure but it's only value in in the history and geography lessons hidden within them.

I too have a large collection that I mark with dates, scott number and value on that date. This way if and when I pass they will have a general idea of what it is and value. I also give encase stamps and covers with its identification and history away at Christmas to my nephews and nieces as gifts.($20-30 range) My mom plays a grab bag game and I add them to the game. This way I am spreading the wealth of my collection! I also have a family friend that I have told my family when I pass let him aid in the distribution of my collection.
