So I've been going through some approval books from about 1900-1910 that have some different cat #'s. There's a 1925 scott catalogue online with these numbers. for example there's this:

#33 A8 3c dull red type I (Washington) 3.00
a. 3c claret, type I 5.00
b. 3c orange brown, type I 15.00
c. Vertical half used as lc

I'm curious if this correlates to 11?

Most numbers have remained the same but there are plenty of differences as well.

Greg

Yes, what is now #11 was #33 before the catalog renumbering.
In the old numbering the postmaster provisionals were numbers 1 to 27
The 1847 issue were #28 and 29
The 1875 reprints of the 1847s (now number 3 and 4) were 29D and 29E
The 1 cent 1851s were numbers 30 to 32
The 3 cent 1851s were number 33
The 5 cent 1856 was number 34
The 10 cent 1855s were number 35
The 12 cent 1856 was number 36

The 1861 issue started with #63 just like today
