Good Morning All,

One last "post" before I take a break. There are probably many paper types for postcards - for stamps some paper types are rare. Again, new to postcards so I could use some intel please.

Thanks

Paper types of US postal cards are covered in more detail in the UPSS catalog on US postal cards. Paper types include coarse and fine as well as a number of differing levels of fluorescence. Coarse or fine is determined by holding the card up to a light source. I normally use the overhead light in my office but most any light source, including the sun will work. Determining fluorescence requires a darkened room and a UV light (NOTE: not a UV party light bit one designed to determine fluorescence).

The UPSS has an on-line presence at www.upss.org.

Thank you Bill - Could you please identify the two postcards here and paper types? The top has a cross # like pastern and the bottom card is smooth with horizontal lines. Thanks again.

UX12/PC11 or UPSS S14. flat bed press or UPSS S15, rotary press. I can't get accurate measurements from the scans. Both are in black on various shades of buff. Measurements are from left upright of the "U" to the right edge of the wreath: flat bed (cheaper variety) measures 123 mm or less; rotary measures 124 mm or more (slightly more expensive). From the description the top card is probably rotary press and the bottom probably flat bed but measure them to be sure. Rotary press cards usually (but not always) appear grayer than flat bed press printed cards. Same paper was used for both types of printing and the difference in the paper is due to the printing process not to the paper manufacture.
