Does anyone have a know Guatemala number 31 used or mint. I need it for my reference library, this particular stamp is at times hard to identify and I would love having a know copy to use as reference

Perhaps this will help ID a #31.

In the photo both left stamps are lithograph: a #31 and a #35. The four heavier horizontal lines at the top of the stamps are not as clearly distinguished from the lines below them. Compare these with the engraved #35 and #49 on the right. The four horizontal lines are clearly heavier than the lines below them. Also note that the 20 centavos #49 (and 25 centavos #50) has a vertical line to the right of "centavos". The lithographed 20 and 25 centavos do not have the vertical line. Since both #31 and 43 have the vertical line, you would need a #35 or 36 to compare with a #31 to help ID it. The strength of the top four lines and the overall quality of the printing will be similar. Also a #43 will have comparable quality with a #49 or 50. Clear as mud?

Here is my #31 as a reference

And a #43 follows. Note the overall sharper and much finer detail, especially in the horizontal lines.

Marty, yes its easy on your examples to see the difference between the lithographed and the later engraved stamp..the difference is not always that great..i try running my finger over the stamp to see if its engraved ..sometimes a 43 can look faint and resemble a 31 !

Rick, the water is muddier than I thought. Maybe you figured out that both quotes below are wrong. I seem to blind to my own mistakes until a few days after I post them.

Quote:
both left stamps are lithograph: a #31 and a #35.

Above quote should have read "both top stamps are lithograph: a #31 and a #35"

The below quote should have read: "engraved #43 and #49 on the bottom

Quote:
engraved #35 and #49 on the right

Now I hope it is clearer than mud.

Yes, you are absolutely right, Phil. I have some 31 and 43 examples that are so similar that I not sure which is which. Fortunately, the two I posted are easily differentiated. I can't tell you how many hours I looked at these but it was a lot of hours.
