Happy New Year ever one,I hope ever one is doing great!!!
Well I was looking at my stamps again and found this strange looking mark on this stamp .It might just be some sort of smearing of ink or a crack .But it was really a accident finding it. I saw the marking on the top of the stamp a margin line I think, so I wanted to see it better and found this marking crack or smear. Also there is no way I would have found these marks in any way, with my eyes.
Tell me what you think, their is no price in my Scott's 2019 catalog for pricing a cracked plate on a Scott's 331 but they do mention a cracked plate for this stamp. Here is a picture of a Franklin 331 to compare it with
Thanks for reading
Dan

A crack will accumulate ink and print just like an engraved line on the plate. Thus this cannot be a crack.

If you are going to chase U.S. plate varieties, you will want to obtain Loran French's book "Encyclopedia of Plate Varieties on U.S. Bureau-Printed Postage Stamps". Scott is completely inadequate.
