New to this but trying to verify. In the short time I've been doing this I've come to realize that oddities and rarities are what makes things interesting. That being said Washington/Franklin's are probably my most difficult area of ID.

I see this pair as perf 10s Scott 583. The one on the right I see as maybe a type II ? Thicker hair I think. Ribbon above the 2 more defined. Is there even a type II for a 583? All the perfins are giving me sensory overload especially since they are upside down or backwards or something. The Perfin.org site is down I think. PW & CO, is that Price Waterhouse? Any help would be appreciated as always.

A couple of clarifications. The "Washington/Franklins" are the series of definitives in use 1908-1922. The next series of definitives in use 1922-1938 is often referred to as the "Fourth Bureau Issue".

Your stamp, with the oval values in the lower corners is from the 4th Bureau Issue, which is much easier to identify, due to no watermarks and fewer die varieties.

That said, I agree your stamp appears to be Scott 583, a perf 10 stamp. However, as you suspected, it comes in only 1 variety. The Type I and Type II dies you may be thinking of come only on Scott 634 (sheet) and 599 (coil).
