The answer is in an old thread, by user jarnick:

The cover is a souvenir of the APS Convention, held in St. Louis in 1954. The organizing committee discovered that the old laws pertaining to Steamboat mail were still in effect and arranged for covers to be carried on a Mississippi riverboat. They received the Steamaboat cancel at st. Louis. Note that double the domestic postage was charged. I believe that USN Cdr. Robert W. Murch, a prominent St. Louis collector and APS member was the inspiration for these Riverboat covers.

On a sidenote, the St. L. Zephyr went into operation in 1912 and sank in 1918. The guy apparently had a few damaged old stamps and used up those on your letter. All other (of the many) letters have stamps from the 1950s on them.
Value of your cover is purely hypothetical, between $0 and $5.

That is an awesome cover. I personally would like that cover in my collection. As to price I have no idea, but $5 seems low to me. In any case it is a nice addition and one I think is desirable.

The fact that the cover has way out of period stamps on it does not make it collectable. Stamps and cover simply "don't fit together", it could count as "fun letter" at best. I have serious doubts that this letter saw a post office as it has demonitized stamps plastered on it so it would have been rejected.

Also, can you tell us which 1986 auction had a similar $600 lot?

Again, read what I wrote in my first answer.
The other covers you show have nothing to do with your cover, except they happen to have contemporary STEAMBOAT cancels from the 1860s.They are real postal history. Your cover is a show souvenir made in 1954, and why they chose a nonexisting steamer for the cachet is anyone's guess. Simply look on ebay or similar sites and you will find many others of these souvenir covers, from $2 to $10. A real Saint Louis Zephyr cover would have been carried between 1912 and 1918 when this steamboat was in operation.

If and when the cover sells, you will then know the value. Until it sells, it is over-price. You did not win the lottery.
