Where should I look for documentation on the bluish paper used for US Scott 369? I have 367 and 368.

As I search around looking for options to buy 369, some of the vendor photos def look bluish. Others, not so much.

I want to understand how 369 occurred and why, but I also what is going so that I know what I'm looking at and what to look for.

General interest but also be an educated shopper.

Here's a link to an APS Library where you can do a search for results for "bluish paper."

Search for 'bluish' on this forum and you will find a few threads. This one is probably the best, showing a few side-by-side photos and some good background details that you are asking for:

The discussion is mostly around the 357-358 Washington Franklin stamps, but the same information applies to the 369 Lincoln as well.

The best way that I have found to identify them, place 1 (or more) regular stamps from the same series (e.g. #367) face down on a piece of orange paper, along with the candidate #369 face down, and the difference should be obvious.

If you are buying online, buy from a reputable seller and one who takes returns if you don't like what you receive. In my opinion a certificate is generally not necessary (not worth the cost) for a #369 unless it is in excellent condition and gradable, but it certainly doesn't hurt to have a certificate if you want good peace of mind.

I agree there are lots of sellers who offer faded or toned stamps as if they were bluish paper. A certificate is essential for any of the higher value bluish papers #359-#366.

Thanks so much. All great information that is already answering my question, and I'm going to make use of doing my own searches as well.
