Quote: It's no different from not being able to buy Scott volumes 1A and 1B separately. Not exactly Dan. In the Scott case the two volumes contain different Countries that all fall within the legacy system of a range of Countries in each of six volumes. Scott has split them into two but the contents reflect the old system. In Unitrade it is one Country with each volume covering a different range of dates. It makes sense but not offering the two volumes separately only makes sense if you know that one or the other volume will not stand on its own sales-wise or the perceived value is not there such as one volume being substantially larger than the other volume that costs the same. Volume One is going to be hot commodity in the second-hand market. |

I am glad my local library purchases them each and every year as well as Scott worldwide. I use an older set at home, but obtain updates and prices from the new set when required, I get a loan of them.
I do hope that whomever the editor is and puts out the catalogues, that they will have a website to do addendums and changes found after release. Robin Harris used to update the previous catalogues throughout the year when errors or new information is found, and put them in his stamp webpages on an addendum page. |

I'm surprised none of the Germany collectors have chimed in - Michel's Specialized catalogue for Germany is sold as 1 catalogue with 2-volumes, and always has been during the time I've been using them (circa 2010); and I have no issue with it whatsoever. Frankly, I feel spoiled at having to spend so little on the Unitrade catalogue when compared to other specialized catalogs. $95 ca is quite reasonable!

Quote: The grumbles about the need to buy both books seem wide of the mark. Geoff: Some of us are retired or otherwise living on a fixed income. I realize that the Unitrade catalogue is a real deal when compared with some other specialized catalogues, but I try to keep my costs down as much as possible in an attempt to ensure my fixed income continues to keep me comfortable in a very volatile world. So I was not grumbling, just trying to control costs. Frank. |

I don't see why a bit of wingeing over having to purchase 800 pages when the first 200 pages is what is wanted should be controversial. One of the biggest catalog complaints on the forum is about just this topic of unwanted modern-related volume. For myself, it equates to paying $100 for 200 pages, not 800 pages. That becomes a pricey tome. It reminds me of car companies that package seat heaters in the $9000 options package (looking at you Ford). I don't want the graphics and 167 speaker sound system, I want heated seats. I don't want to look up the 10,000 issues from 2018, I want to see the Admiral's lathe work listings. |

I'm a Germany collector. The Michel Specialized comes in 2 volumes but can be purchased separately as well as a set. Volume 1 covers 1849 to April 1945, Volume 2 covers May 1945 to present. I buy Volume 1 every few years but have bought Volume 2 only once. |

If both volumes were $100.00, would you buy the volume that you wanted for $60.00? |

I can tell you right now which volume would be the sales leader by far, Volume I. Why? Because it contains the stamps that the serious collectors collect. The stamps that are competed for on a regular basis at auction houses. The stamps with the highest overall catalog values. I am not degrading those that collect modern issues. Godspeed to them. I am simply stating reality and that is why I believe the decision to package volume II with volume I. Of course, volume II costs the most to produce by virtue of sheer scope and size. Every year adds many new stamps. Volume II takes more input since modern issues are always being added whereas volume I is mostly, if we are being honest, static except for newly discovered information. It is the same trap that plagues all reference book publishers. Scott became twelve volumes because of new issues.
Volume I SHOULD cost less but if it cost the same it would be seen as fair by most people. |

Maybe having one volume separated as two volumes may allow for more things like varieties, etc. to be added and listed in volume one since it would not be as big as volume two for starters. Don't really know if collectors or its new editor would want volume one to expand or not. |

The 2025-2026 Unitrade Specialized Catalogue of Canadian Stamps is already for Pre-order sale. It is scheduled to be delivered the first week of September. The Editor has it available on his Durbano Stamps website. |

The two different Walsh catalogues total around over 1800 pages together. For those who are looking for classic Canada 1851-1951 note the following: Walsh 2025 British North America Specialized Stamp Catalogue 16th Edition eBook 800 pgs. (1851-1951) Walsh 2025 Newfoundland Specialized Stamp Catalogue 16th Edition eBook 1032 pgs. (1857-1947) See: www.nfldstamps.com |

I live in the UK and collect KG6 - mainly postal history - so would probably not buy a complete Unitrade up to 2025 (?) - the postage would almost double the cost and no one in the UK stocks it.
A version ending at 1952 may be of interest but only if there was a significant update to the contents. I have the 2016 version and my previous one was 2004 - there was very little significant difference in the KG6 section I could see.
Splitting the catalogue into two section is probably the bets way to go - many other publishers have gone on that route. Most collectors of modern material probably do not have much (any?) interest in the admirals etc and vice versa.
