I'm missing something here. Help, please.
What is the difference between Belgium Scott types A27 and A32? (ex. nos. 64 and 84)
Probably staring me in the face but I just can't see it.
Thanks in advance.

The left stamp runs down continuously through the bottom label.

In the right stamp, there is a clear gap.

This question comes up so often, it's amazing that the catalog editors don't put a little footnote somewhere.

The background that the shield is sitting in was redrawn; A27 is thin lines, A32 used thick inked lines.

Interresting both of us (khj) saw different things.
1) Shield background
2) Framwork omitted between the stamp & the tab

Mike, I mentioned the gap, because that test applies to the other stamp designs of those sets.

It is good that you mentioned the specifics of the design difference for that particular stamp, because occasionally, we run into no-tab stamps that are poorly perforated so that you cannot see the bottom of the stamp. Then, you have to rely on the main design differences to distinguish between the different issues.

Thank you very much k,
I am not worthy.

This is the one that nobbled me, I only found it by chance,
illustrating one is only as good as one's catalogue.
(and Stanley Gibbons Simplified just doesn't cut it)

Yeah, with (left) and without (right) the engraver's name!

Fortunately, I had enough fun with the Portuguese Ceres stamps to keep me on my toes.
