I have several examples of Schermacks which are " on piece". Is the value of these somewhere in between the used single price and the on cover price?

Isn't a Schermack a type of private perforation? This looks like a cut (or tear on the bottom) from an imperforate sheet.

On cover, in my opinion, is much different than on a piece or fragment. A cover tells a much richer history.

Not to disagree with the above concern of it actually being a private perf, I just want to say on cover is on cover with an appropriate on cover price. In general if an item is better, read pricey, on cover, the on piece tends to be in the range of 2x the used catalog price.

I appreciate the information, but I'm confused…Are these not vending stamps?

This 3c stamp does appear to be a Schermack vending coil based on the two vertical slits at the right of the design, just cut poorly from the vending machine. The only odd thing I see about the stamp is the rough bottom edge. I suppose the slits could have possibly been manufactured, but it looks like it could be legit to me.

Oh yes, I see the evidence of Shermack perfs now. Sorry about the earlier concern.

Yes I'm sorry it's not a great picture…. I have about eight of them but I chose to show this one because it contains part of four different stamps, Which I thought was kind of neat

Generally the value on piece is the used stamp value, unless the cancel has value. If a stamp is really rare on cover than there might be some extra value for being on piece.
