I bought a booklet of the Christmas/Holiday P stamps at a Shoppers CP outlet today.
I scanned the booklet before using the stamps for Christmas mail and noticed
that on the upper right stamp of the booklet the fox has red markings which are not
on the other stamps.

Has anyone else seen this variety?

Good purchase !

I've checked my local Post Office this morning and a Shoppers' post office this afternoon. None of the booklets had the red marks suggesting that it s not a constant error, but an E.F.O.

Today's mail included this stamp with very faint reddish marks on the fox's face which may also be on the lithograving stamp, therefore unrelated to his very obvious variety.

Uh oh! A "bloody fox" variety. Or is that an adolescent skin problem?

Thanks for checking in your area BlackJag
So now it appears to be a not constant variety.
I guess I'll use it up and stick it on Christmas mail.

Perhaps it's a bit early to say it's not a constant variety. It all depends upon which pane in the printed sheet the OP's specimen comes from. By experience (admittedly a small sample) suggests that the production of the booklets involve slicing up multiple sheets at a time, resulting in the pane with a variety being packaged in groups rather than individually in production run. It is thus possible that some smaller CP outlets receive none. It also increases the number that of booklets that you may have to look through to find one with the variety.

itma, you have raised a good point regarding the printing of these booklets.

I'm curious as to how these self-adhesive stamp booklets are printed
compared to water-activated gum

Would be nice to see a video of a press run at the Colour-Innovations
printing plant

It might turn out to be a constant variety. I say "might" because I'm not familiar with the process used by Colour-Innovations. When B.A.B.N. was printing in the 70s and 80s, they ran continuous paper (called web) and printed some booklet panes in four columns with two printing processes (one process printed 12 panes per revolution of the printing cylinder) The other cylinder (different process) printed 18 panes. Yes it's technical but here is where the constant flaws come from.
If the flaw is on the 12 pane cylinder the flaw will repeat (in one column only) every 12th booklet.
If it is on the 18 pane cylinder the flaw will repeat every 18th booklet in one column. The other three columns will not have the flaw.
So you may wish to hold on and look again.
Or until you can find out about their printing process and see what your chances are.
