as you all know, I don't really collect WW stamps..
i have some from a long time ago, but they are still in envelopes waiting to be classified..
in this old album I think I found a Persian fake.
1924 681 type 2
counterfeits having double line of postes are plentiful.

what do you think?

It's a good chance that it is. I think the majority of early Persian stamps out there are counterfeits and some are not easy to tell apart.

Yes stampvirgin that's a counterfeit. I can see the two lines over "postes". I have Scott on cd and I can enlarge the picture A38. There's only one line. You're counterfeit is not type II, that's for the 6 chahis that come in type I and Type II. You're stamp is a counterfeit of A38. You're stamp is a 1 chahi and A38, 3 chahis. The script is different. I can confirm that. The two lines are a conclusive test for the forgeries.

Here's an interesting tidbit. One reason for the large number of counterfeit printings of Persian stamps is that some of the original plates were acquired by private individuals/parties.

However, this particular stamp has sort of a "reverse" history. The original plate was actually produced privately to make bogus Persian stamps. It was never authorized by the government. The plate was discovered and confiscated by European authorities, and turned over to Persian authorities. After WWI, there was a real shortage of postage, so the government actually took these plates out of archive and used them to produce valid postage! An extremely rare case of bogus plates used to make genuine postage by the government!

Afterwards, same old song and dance -- counterfeits/forgeries were produced.
