What's The Most Expensive Stamp You Purchased In 2011?

The most I have paid for a single stamp this year is for a French stamp.

Fine Used France Scott Catalog #7a
1849-50 Ceres Issue 40 Centimes Orange Vermillion on Yellowish Paper

No image because I do not have it as yet in my hot little hand.

An R99a, an R83a on document, an RB16c with cert, and a Canadian hoard, all of which were into 4 figures each. Several R2bs, and a 1st-issue insurance cancel collection, which was also 4 figures.

The year isn't over yet... I have my local show this weekend, and then next month a few days at Chicagopex (which I expect to be an expensive weekend).

Bunch of US classics.....

10A, 14, 15, 20, 37(sf), 38(sf), 56, 64, 64b, 70a, 70b, 78b, 75, 83, 85 (2 of them), 86, 87, 90, 92, 209b, 218, 491.

But did it all by bottom feeding-- taking advantage of some outstanding buys, where there were low bids-- for example, the 491(and had it certed later), I think I paid $40, and it's sound, and XF, and at auction would probably go for $500+.

Most I spent was $225 for the 64..... Ray

Since a few of you who have contributed to this thread know something about Canadian stamps, can I ask whether Canada #70 (QV 5c blue) used , in a block of ten, would be worth anything? Or are used multiples common for these stamps?

I will reveal the identity of the stamp for which I've paid the most money (if and) when it arrives!

The are clear mounts, it's nice you can see the picture of the stamp before you put in the real one.

I just want to say what beautiful USA material shown here [and others too]. You must all be very pleased.

I purchased the item below in January for £50 [$78. I rarely can use such a chunk from my meagre stamp budget for such things.
One of 50 numbered copies released by the British Postal Museum and Archive, printed on an old Enschede Intaglio Printing Press at the Guilhall,London in May 2010 during the Festival of Stamps.
I was lucky enough to have been present at a pre-demonstration before the Official opening day and held a freshly-printed block in my hands while it was drying ! I had to give it back of course, but fell in love with it and was thrilled to have been one of the lucky 50 earlier this year.
My prize Cinderella item but housed in my 'London 2010' albums.

In June of this year whilst in the UK, I was offered many times what I paid for it by a private collector at a Stamp fair.
I declined.

Used multiples in that quantity are uncommon, but oddly enough, these multiples rarely sell with any bonus for their size outside of plate blocks. Unitrade rarely comments on multiples so when these are up for sale, catalogue values are usually stated as singles. Still, it sounds like an interesting item!

Well I think the stamp I have spent the most on so far is a Penny Blue. I paid $18.00. I dig it out and scan it in the morning.

My most expensive purchase (single stamp) for the year -- the German Caroline Islands 1910 Ponape Provisional Surcharge, inverted on PPC.



If not limited to a single stamp, my most expensive purchase was this set -- the Bern UPU printing of the 1897 German Marshall Islands Overprints.

I know you said you were hunting for the 38 a while ago. Are you still looking?. I got this one at a good price. I need to have in hand before I can set a price. But, you all know me, I try to help forum members when ever I can.

Indeed I am looking for a 38 but I suspect everything you have is top notch and being so close to Christmas I can't see me buying anything like that until after the holidays. Thank you for thinking of me though.
