Quote: I just love stamps, in all their conditions, esp if they tell a story.
all stamps will find a happy owner at some point, one man's trash is another man's treasure. for some purposes I too keep all stamps no matter how sorry they are.. for other purposes, only the cream of the crop will suffice. and swedish stamps and their postmarks really brings alot to the table in my world. |

being bored and not wanting to go to bed. here are some examples of some different swedish cancels and some foreign on swedish stamps. first one is a so called Ray postmark Robertsholm on a letter Next is a Rectangular postmark, many of these exist, but no way near as common as the circle postmarks. this one is pretty common from Stockholm. Next is a Beehive postmark, and there are only 5 different ones, this one is the least common ones from Göteborg Next up, Ö.S.B Railway mail sadly only a cutout, would have been a lovely cover. Next, some examples of the result of mail delivered right onto the boats, these would be cancelled on route, or at arrival and thus with the recieving country's postmarks.. England, Denmark and Germany displayed. These stamps are all in a 3 album collection I bought some years ago and really haven't looked at much, but thanks to Rod's wonderful post, I dusted it off. all the way from Prephil letters from around 1830's and up to and including ringtype (which was why I bought it) it holds numerous, shaded stamps, with many wonderful postmarks. enjoy, time for bed. |

Great stuff, Sorsh. The dotted CDS remind me of the early Chinese Cancellers, the outer dotted rings were pointed (knurled) thereby puncturing the stamps as they were cancelled. A brilliant idea, not adopted by any other country. Great collection of Pmks, very attractive. Query: ULRICEHAMN LBR Pmk On Sc#96 I think (presume) I cannot read the Wmk As the "remainders" overprinted I posted previously, This stamp looks dodgy too .....A very late usage? 1943 Genuine Pmk ? and what does the "LBR" indicate? Thanks. |

Poster Stamps. The Olympiad Label, I have a murky memory of these with reserve of in excess of $50 in an Auction Catalogue. The text differs on several identical stamp designs. How many in set, unknown. Both mint, undisturbed gum. |

Hi Rod, I'm intrigued to see your two poster stamps as I have a different language version of each. I have an English-language version of the Olympic label which says: OLYMPIC GAMES STOCKHOLM 1912 JUNE 29 th - JULY 22 nd Your one appears to be in Hungarian. I also have a Swedish-language version of the Gothenburg exhibition label which says: JUBILEUMS USTÄLLNINGEN GOTEBORG 1923 Your one appears to be in Dutch. |

Quote: Query: ULRICEHAMN LBR Pmk Ulricehamn is in western part of sweden, in Västra Götalands (Älvsborg county) Quote: On Sc#96 I think (presume) I cannot read the Wmk As the "remainders" overprinted I posted previously, This stamp looks dodgy too .....A very late usage? 1943 it's not uncommon to see late usage. if the postage rate changed, you could add an old stamp to adjust. Quote: Genuine Pmk ? and what does the "LBR" indicate? yes it's genuine, and LBR stands for Lädbrev I believe, simply postbox letter. Quote: The dotted CDS remind me of the early Chinese Cancellers, the outer dotted rings were pointed (knurled) thereby puncturing the stamps as they were cancelled. the swedish dotted rings would actually often puncture the stamps. I've seen many examples of this happening, but of course I can't find one to show right now. denmark tried this type of cancel in the early 1870's but it never made it past experimental stage. a friend of mine has a copy of this quite rare cancel. |
