Too bad the top two are hinged. If there are 4 there are probably more. |

In almost 100 years since first being inverted surcharged, these are the first stamps to be certified as genuine. This was all prompted by an article in "Maple Leaves" entitled "Canada 1926 Provisional 2 Cents Surcharges on King George V- Admiral Issue", Maple Leaves, Vol 35, #4, Whole #346 (Oct 2017), p. 219(7) which got the attention of Ariel Hasid of WIP International who knew about this block of stamps with inverted surcharges and had it sent in to be expertized by APEX. |

I suspect it will be obvious once I have been told but what is the "VCS Examination" on the cert ? I guess a high resolution and enlargement overlay .

Anthraquinone, VSC stands for Video Spectro Comparator, one of which is owned by the Vincent Graves Greene Philatelic Research Foundation. It is used for authenticating postal material as well as checking for other alterations or defects, etc. Attached is a screen grab from their site about the device. As a matter of fact, in the latest issue of Canadian Stamp News was part 3 of a story about what this device can do and discover. |

Does anyone know if this variety will be listed in Canada stamp listings in catalogues and in Canada stamp catalogues? |

Quote: Does anyone know if this variety will be listed in Canada stamp listings in catalogues and in Canada stamp catalogues? Inverted overprints are major errors, so I'd suggest the only way this doesn't eventually get a listing in Scott and Unitrade is if there are lingering questions of authenticity (APEX says it's genuine) or provenance (major errors occurring as printers' waste, for example, are usually not listed). |

codehappy: This is what I am trying to find out about what is going on about its listing. There is more information on this block in CPSGB "Maple Leaves", Volume 36, Number 6, Whole Number 356, April 2020, Pages 306-307 with regards to its provenance. |

As far as I can tell..The 2020 Unitrade Catalouge has not recognized this major error...Can only hope Robin Harris sees this block and decides to place it in his Catalouge...That would leave it open for collectors to search for blocks and singles.
Robert
Not sure if this is to be added to Mr. Walsh's B.C.S.S.C. Catalouge. |

News regarding the subject matter in this old thread. In the newest issue of Canadian stamp news, volume 45 Number 16 dated November 24 to December 7, 2020, is the first part of two part story about quite this unique 139b block of 4. Well, its official. The Vincent Graves Green Foundation has issued a certificate dated June of 2018 stating that the stamps are Mint OG block of 4 with fake surcharge and APEX has recalled its certificate. Attached is a copy of the certificate as seen on the front page of CSN as noted above. Note it states 130b! My previous assumption about "if there are four their are more" appears to be correct, according to this story. |

Jogil...I bet the owner is a little upset...But, he has probably one of a kind forgery...The colour of the overprint seems to be brownish colour. Robert |
